Cameron County Beach Access #5

Cameron County Beach Access #5 is one of the most popular beach access points on the north end of South Padre Island and serves as the primary entrance for driving directly on the beach. From this access point, visitors can take their street-legal vehicles onto miles of sandy shoreline, making it a favorite destination for beach camping, surf fishing, off-road adventures, birdwatching, shell collecting, and exploring the natural beauty of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Beach Access #5 is also the gateway to the island's more remote beaches, where visitors can find quieter stretches of coastline as they travel north toward the Port Mansfield Jetties. A four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle is recommended, especially when driving on softer sand farther north. Be sure to carry essential recovery equipment, such as a shovel, tow strap, air compressor, and plenty of drinking water before venturing onto the beach.

According to Cameron County Parks, the current daily entrance fee is $12 per passenger vehicle.  Pedestrians and bicyclists may enter free of charge. Frequent visitors can also purchase a 30-day pass for $35 or an annual system-wide pass for $100, which provides access to participating Cameron County parks and beach entrances.  Fees are charged per vehicle, not per person, allowing everyone in the vehicle to enter with a single admission fee.

VisitSPI.com provides everything you need to know about Cameron County Beach Access #5, including driving tips, beach conditions, camping information, fishing opportunities, nearby attractions, and safety recommendations to help you enjoy one of the most unique beach-driving experiences on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Cameron County Beach Access #6

Cameron County Beach Access #6 South Padre Island

Cameron County Beach Access #6 is the northernmost public beach access on South Padre Island and the final vehicle access point before continuing north along the beach toward the Port Mansfield Jetties.  It is the preferred starting point for visitors planning to explore the island's remote coastline, enjoy surf fishing, beach camping, wildlife photography, shell collecting, or experience one of the most secluded stretches of the Texas Gulf Coast including the unofficial "Nude Beach" of SPI.

Beach Access #6 provides drive-on beach access, allowing street-legal vehicles to travel for miles along the shoreline.  Beyond this point, the beach becomes increasingly remote, and road conditions can vary depending on tides, weather, and sand conditions. A high-clearance four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle is strongly recommended for anyone planning to travel north to the Port Mansfield Jetties, as sections of soft sand can easily cause two-wheel-drive vehicles to become stuck. Visitors should also carry recovery equipment such as a tow strap, shovel, air compressor, full-size spare tire, and plenty of drinking water before venturing into these isolated areas.

According to Cameron County Parks, the current vehicle entrance fee is $12.00 per vehicle, providing access to the drive-on beach. Fees are subject to change, so visitors should verify current rates before their trip.

Whether you're heading to the Port Mansfield Jetties for world-class fishing, searching for a secluded beach, or simply looking to experience the untouched beauty of South Padre Island's northern coastline, Cameron County Beach Access #6 is the ideal launching point for your adventure.

VisitSPI.com provides everything you need to know about Cameron County Beach Access #6, including driving tips, beach conditions, camping information, fishing opportunities, nearby attractions, and safety recommendations to help you enjoy one of the most unique beach-driving experiences on the Texas Gulf Coast.

TIPS:  Driving on the Beach

Driving on the beach is one of the most unique experiences on South Padre Island, giving visitors access to miles of beautiful, undeveloped shoreline that cannot be reached by paved roads.  From the designated drive-on beach access points, you can explore the island's remote beaches, enjoy world-class surf fishing, beach camping, shell collecting, birdwatching, and stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the Port Mansfield Jetties.

While driving on the beach is an unforgettable adventure, it also requires preparation. Sand conditions can change quickly due to tides, weather, and traffic, and even experienced drivers can become stuck in soft sand. Before heading north, check the weather forecast, be aware of tide conditions, and always drive responsibly to help protect the beach and its natural environment.
